What's new?
VUMI - You may recall an earlier article in "What's new?" about VUMI a great tool for students to manage their education and training achievements and work history through creating their very own e-Portfolio. Well, I now have my own e-Portfolio which you can view by clicking on this link. It is great for RPL but I would suggest that it could be used for marketing your RTO also! Phone or email me if you would like to know more.
The Department of Education and Training (DET) has agreed in principle to join the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and it is expected that this process will be on its way to completion by 30 June 2012.
Currently the VET Quality Framework ONLY applies to RTOs regulated by ASQA (currently all New South Wales, Australian Capital Territory, Northern Territory and some from Victoria and Western Australia).
All RTOs in Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania as well as RTOs in Western Australia and Victoria that only operate within their state and that are not registered on CRICOS are still required to comply with the existing framework, consisting of:
Registration
- Australian Qualifications Framework.
The ASQA website is comprehensive and quite easy to navigate. Now is the time to be reading up on the VET Quality Framework for transition of your RTO (if currently registered only in QLD, SA and Tasmania) in the coming months. More information on transition dates etc can be found at http://www.asqa.gov.au/about-asqa/asqas-jurisdiction/transition-arrangements.html
The www.training.gov.au website is also a breath of fresh air……you can download unit of competency information in Microsoft Word and also subscribe to notifications of changes to the training packages that you deliver. Lots more so worth a peek
Check out the National Skills Standards Council (NSSC) website also at http://www.nssc.tvetaustralia.com.au/home. This body has taken over some of the functions of the former National Quality Council (NQC). I have been watching out for the NQC recommended changes to trainer/assessor requirements through subscription to NSSC newsletters.

- model for assessment fact sheets that might be used within the VET sector to provide information on key assessment themes. The model for assessment fact sheets has been designed to provide a brief overview of assessment issues in the form of a three step ‘how to’ guide, to be used by assessors working in a range of contexts in the VET sector as support materials, with the template designed for use by developers wishing to develop additional assessment fact sheets. For example, RTOs, teacher/trainer and assessor networks and other developers may develop assessment fact sheets specific to their own needs to support assessment practices.
